Once in a while during my various appointments meeting designers and seeing new lines each week, I come across something that excites me mainly because it’s cute, I want to wear all of it immediately and I can actually afford to (well, more like 2 or 3 things not really all of it.)
JNBY-which stands for “just naturally be yourself” is a line based in China that made its U.S debut last season. It’s got that drapey, architectural appeal that’s good for layering in L.A’s hot to cool, days to nights as well as a slightly dark, goth aesthetic that Rick Owens’ followers love, and with a price point that’s a little gentler on that Comme des Garcons wallet.
Colors are deep and neutral -- think olive green, black, tan and gray. Dresses are mostly under $200, while structured jackets and cropped trench coats are around $300.
Plenty of the tough-girl basics, such as the army green sweater with slashed holes and a grey trench style coat with modern looking epaulets, fit into fall’s military trend, but work as versatile wardrobe staples as well.
JNBY is available at Fred Segal and www.shopbop.com
