Roger Clemens, the All-Star pitcher who blew away batters into his 40s, has been charged with perjury for allegedly lying to Congress about his use of growth hormones and steroids.
The Internet is not pleased with the Rocket, but many on Twitter see hypocrisy in the government going after the seven-time Cy Young Award winner for something that they often get accused, and convicted, of: lying.
"Too bad Roger Clemens was indicted... Now he's in the same catergory as Bill Clinton... ugh," tweeted Ms. Parker.
"It would appear that Roger Clemens is now ready to run for office in Chicago or be in Obama's cabinet," dodgr007 wrote.
"Roger Clemens going to court soon. How much longer must we wait for Barry Bonds to join him?" RDM_KC asked.
"Roger Clemens indicted for lying to congress. What, like they don't lie to us on a daily basis?!" davehudgens typed.
Clemens the latest in 'roid-gate; makes Pete Rose appear to be among MLB's more upstanding players. Maybe the Hall door is cracked? Papapr tweeted.
Re: Roger Clemens - Why isn't it a crime when *Congress* lies to *us*? DrBorrowdale asked.
So what's your take? Is lying to Congress about taking steroids something that Congress should spend its time pursuing? Or should our elected officials root out every bad apple, even if it includes pro athletes who swear to tell the truth and appear not to? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
