The heat wave sizzling across Southern California is expected to last at least one more day, forecasters said.
By Tuesday afternoon, temperatures reached 111 in Woodland Hills, 108 in Lancaster, 102 in Pasadena and 95 at the Long Beach Airport, the National Weather Service said.
[Updated at 6:51 p.m.: The 95 degrees at Long Beach Airport broke a record of 94 for this day set in 1985, the weather service said. The 108-degree reading in Lancaster beat a previous record of 106, also set in 1985.]
In Ventura County, temperatures varied from 74 degrees at Point Mugu to 108 degrees in Ojai. In Orange County, temperatures ranged from 84 at Laguna Beach to 98 in Yorba Linda and Anaheim, the weather service said.
In the Inland Empire, Ontario reached 106 degrees and Rialto hit 109.
Bonnie Bartling, a weather specialist, said the heat would last through Wednesday before temperatures begin to drop.
"Thursday will be the transition day," she said. "It will still be hot, but not as hot."
