Residents were allowed to return to their homes Tuesday night as evacuation orders were lifted in the Kern County brush fire, officials said.
The Kern County Fire Department announced the order as crews continued to battle the blaze, which had scorched 1,100 acres near Lebec and Frazier Park. Earlier in the day, about 150 to 200 homes were evacuated.
Fire officials credited a strong aerial attack, which included a DC-10 jet and water-dropping helicopters, with helping firefighters make a stand earlier in the day as flames threatened about 60 homes near Frazier Park.
Officials said crews would work through the night. The cause of the fire was under investigation.
