Police evacuated a South Los Angeles high school Wednesday after an apparent pipe bomb was discovered in a school restroom.
School police spotted the device in a first-floor bathroom at year-round Manual Arts High School at 10:50 a.m., according to Los Angeles Police Department spokesman Richard French.
About 2,000 students and staff were moved to a playing field, French said.
A Los Angeles Police Department bomb squad was trying to determine whether the device is an actual bomb and would disarm it if necessary, he said.
Police were unaware of any bomb threat at the school and did not have any suspects, French said.
A Metropolitan Transit Authority bus service near the Vermont Avenue school was rerouted as a precaution.
