An actor from the TV drama "Sons of Anarchy" was arrested after a bizarre altercation with a Glendale police officer who pulled him over for allegedly talking on a cellphone and not wearing a seat belt.
Mark Hiedrich, 55, of Los Angeles, a.k.a. the actor Mark Boone Junior, was taken into custody about 4:40 p.m. Tuesday on suspicion of misdemeanor resisting arrest and misdemeanor battery on a peace officer, Glendale Police Sgt. Tom Lorenz said.
Hiedrich was driving his 1995 Ford Thunderbird in Montrose when a Glendale police officer stopped him at Ramsdell and Honolulu avenues, Lorenz said.
Hiedrich was pulled over for talking on a cellphone while driving and for not wearing a seatbelt, Lorenz said.
An argument between the officer and Hiedrich intensified, Lorenz said.
"He was in a rush to get to someplace and unfortunately it escalated," he said.
As the officer tried to handcuff Hiedrich, a struggle broke out, during which the officer fell onto the ground, Lorenz said.
As the actor allegedly continued to resist arrest, Lorenz said he tried striking the officer in the face, but missed.
"It escalated to the point where it didn't need to go," Lorenz said.
Hiedrich was eventually taken into custody, and the officer did not sustain injuries, Lorenz added.
