A Glendale man was stabbed by a motorist outside his home Thursday night after a road-rage incident on the 5 Freeway and Western Avenue, police said.

The man was taken to a local hospital, where he was treated for a stab wound to his stomach, Glendale Police Det. Keith Soboleski said. The injured man was recovering Friday at the hospital, he added.

The stabbing occurred about 7:30 p.m. in the 1000 block of Western Avenue in Glendale following a road-rage incident that began on the freeway, Sgt. Tom Lorenz said.

The victim had been driving north on the I-5 freeway when he was cut off by another vehicle, he said.

After he and the other vehicle exited on Western Avenue, they stopped at a red light at the intersection with San Fernando Road. It was there that the man and a woman, who was a passenger in the other vehicle, yelled profanity at each other.

The light turned green and both cars continued on Western Avenue. But then the motorist blocked the victim's car near his home, Lorenz said.

They exited their cars and began yelling and fighting, he said. During the fight, police said the victim was stabbed.

The motorist fled the scene, but the victim got a description of the vehicle, which was described as an older gold or silver El Camino with a yellow California license plate issued from 1956 to 1962. The license plate numbers and letters were black.

The light turned green and both cars continued on Western Avenue. But then the motorist blocked the victim's car near his home, Lorenz said.
