Las Vegas police are defending their arrest Friday of Paris Hilton for alleged possession of cocaine.

Hilton was treated "like everyone else," Deputy Chief Jim Dixon told the Las Vegas Review Journal, adding that the one difference was that the actress was not placed with other inmates at the county jail. "If you stick somebody in like her or somebody else who's famous, all of a sudden it's disruptive. We're under obligation to make sure that everybody is kept safe."

Las Vegas police said they had enough evidence to arrest Hilton, but it will be up to prosecutors to file charges. Attorneys for Hilton and her boyfriend have suggested that not all the facts in the case have been made public.

Hilton and boyfriend Cy Waits, in a Cadillac Escalade, were pulled over by Las Vegas police, who said they smelled marijuana. Officers said they found a small amount of cocaine inside Hilton's purse.

Hilton flew back to her home in Los Angeles and has not made a comment. Her attorney, David Chesnoff, released a statement urging people not to make a "rush to judgment."

"This matter will be dealt with in the courts, not in the media, and I encourage people not to rush to judgment until all of the facts have been dealt with in a court of law," he said in the statement.

Waits' attorney suggested to the Associated Press that there was evidence that would prove the pair were  innocent.

"As the case proceeds, a lot of facts are going to come to light that will ultimately lead to exoneration," Richard Schonfeld said.

On Twitter, Hilton said: I'm so thankful to all my fans for all the love and support you are giving me. Thank you all. Love you so much. Love Paris."
