One firefighter was injured as crews gained ground Wednesday afternoon battling an 85-acre brush fire burning thick vegetation in Riverside County.
The fire, which broke out about 1:15 p.m. near La Cresta, was 40% contained as ground crews worked to douse hots spots in an area near Clinton Keith Road, the Riverside County Fire Department said.
The injured firefighter was taken to a hospital for minor heat-related injuries, the department said. Firefighters appeared to have stopped the advance of the blaze, which caused intermittent power outages in the area.
About 280 firefighters, along with six air tankers and two helicopters, were attacking the blaze. Officials said they were hoping to fully contain the fire by midnight.
