U.S. Forest Service officials announced Thursday that areas recently burned by a 1,300-acre brush fire in Los Padres National Forest in Kern County will be closed to the public, even though the blaze has been contained.

The Post fire broke out Aug. 24 near the community of Lebec and was 100% contained five days later. But the area will be closed for about two weeks because of ash and potential hotspots inside the fire zone, Forest Service spokesman Andrew Madsen said.

The closed area begins about 1.5 miles of west of Interstate 5 on Frazier Mountain Park Road at the Los Padres National Forest boundary. The closure area continues west along Frazier Mountain Park Road to Cuddy Valley Road, where it continues northwest to Forest Road 19N21 and follows that road along the forest boundary.
