Residents of a Sacramento suburb were treated to an unexpected animal show Saturday evening when two zebras broke loose and ran down a busy street.
"I looked up and said, 'There's a zebra,' " witness Adrian Reynolds told the Sacramento Bee. "It was charging at people. It was in the middle of the road. It already had been hit by a car."
The zebras ran away when they were being loaded onto a truck from a property in Carmichael, Calif., from which they were going to be sent to a ranch in Oregon.
One of the animals evaded deputies and startled onlookers and motorists for about an hour, according to Fox 40 News.
It was located inside a pool in an apartment complex on El Camino Avenue. The second zebra was injured after it was struck by a car and located hours later. It is expected to survive, Fox 40 said.
