Zsa Zsa Gabor asks for last rites in hospital

A priest administered last rites for Zsa Zsa Gabor, 93, at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center on Sunday morning, her longtime publicist, John Blanchette, said.

Gabor broke en her hip July 17 at her Bel-Air home while getting into a wheelchair that was not locked in place, Blanchette said. She underwent hip replacement and was released from the hospital on Wednesday. On Thursday she had chest pains and was rushed to the emergency room. Doctors found and removed two clots, including one close to her heart, the publicist said.

Her husband, Frederic Prinz von Anhalt, was at her bedside, and she was talking through Saturday--their 20th wedding anniversary.

Her condition worsened Sunday morning

“She asked for the priest this morning,” Blanchette said. “The priest came in and gave last rites.” She had not talked after that and was being fed through a tube, he said.

Doctors planned to try to get her to eat without the tube Monday, he said. “That’s the only hope,” he said. Zsa Zsa Gabor is the last of the three glamorous Gabor sisters, including Eva and Magda, all of whom, like their mother, died after breaking bones. “They all kept their mind until the end,” Blanchette said. “It was their bodies to fail first.”
