Share your memories of Marc Abrams -- Silver Lake's 'Walking Man' dies at 58

Residents of Silver Lake have lost a neighborhood staple. The Los Angeles County coroner's office early Thursday confirmed the death of Marc Abrams, 58, who was simply known as the "Walking Man."

Abrams earned nicknames such as the Walking Man, the Silver Lake Walker, the Reader Walker and the Walking Doctor because he has been taking long walks through the neighborhood since moving there in the '80s.

He was found dead Wednesday in a backyard hot tub.

Abrams quickly became a fixture in the neighborhood because of his daily treks that he did bare-chested and in tiny, bright-colored shorts.

Last month, The Times followed Abrams on one of his treks. He said he logged up to 200 miles a week at a pace of 5 mph. 

A Facebook memorial has popped up wishing Abrams will "walk in peace."
