Northbound 405 lane closed after brush fire near Getty Center

One lane of the northbound 405 Freeway remained closed early Sunday because of the mop-up operation from last night’s brush fire near the Getty Center, authorities said.

The California Highway Patrol received reports from alarmed motorists who saw smoke rising from the hillside east of the freeway around 7 a.m. and alerted fire authorities, officer Ed Jacobs said.

The right-most lane of the freeway was closed between Getty Center Drive and Skirball Center Drive to accommodate fire crews dealing with the aftermath of the fire, which burned through 10 acres for about two hours before being extinguished Saturday evening. The lane is expected to be reopened shortly.

No injuries or structure damages were reported from the fire.

A Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman said the brush fire had not rekindled and that the smoke was probably just due to “residual wetness” from Saturday’s fire containment efforts.

“There is absolutely no flare-up,” fire spokesman Devin Gales said. “Because of hot weather, we just want to make sure all embers completely out.”
